Product description for Michael Andres Leinhöhle -N- 2021 (bio)
Info
The wines of the N-Series represent an experimental and highly creative playground for Michael Andres. Small batches here experience maximum freedom and time in every process. Spontaneous fermentation and no applied filtration unite them all. N stands for Natural, No Filtration, No Limits, and Next Level. This parcel from Michael Andres is located in the Deidesheim Leinhöhle on a warm south-facing slope, very close to the town limits of Deidesheim. It is fermented spontaneously in tonneau vats, where malolactic fermentation also takes place. The wine matures on the full lees until June 2022, before racking. Minimal sulphur is used during bottling.
Colour
Bright lemon yellow with light reflections
Nose
The 2021 Leinhöhle Riesling from Michael Andres’ N-Series reveals unusual fruit for a Riesling. Rooibos and rosehip present themselves alongside a hint of raspberry. White currant and mirabelle plum complement the fruity array. Douglas fir and acacia provide abundant floral, elegant, and soft accents. With a little patience, oxygen, and temperature, the yellow stone fruits emerge much more clearly. Dark rock, a nuance of cold smoke, and green pepper lend it a very unique, spicy identity.
Palate
The spice also sets in directly on the palate. It appears dense and yellow-fruity, yet always juicy and invigorating. A surprising number of vegetal aromas rise to the surface on the palate. The fruit is perfectly complemented by the acidity and its straightforward structure. Juniper, fennel seed, and fresh coriander provide plenty of ethereal moments in the finish, again untypical of a Riesling.

Wine Advocate
Score: 92
The 2021 Leinhöhle Riesling –N– is intense and lemony on the enormously concentrated, complete and yeasty as well as tonic and juniper-scented nose that is enormously dense and complex, saline and in a positive way oxidative. On the palate, this is a dense and complex, powerful, saline and grippy Riesling with fine tannins on the intense, very dense finish. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in June 2023.
