Product description for Meinklang Epic Perlwein trocken 2023 (bio)Epic 2023 is a sparkling wine made from Welschriesling, Muscat, and Grüner Veltliner. The grapes were fermented spontaneously. After fermentation, carbon dioxide was added in the tank. Due to the fact that it was not filtered and has been aged on its lees in the bottle, it still has a hint of a Petit Nat feel. The vintage information on the label was overprinted, as there were probably a few too many labels last year.

Colour

Medium straw yellow with effervescent mousse.

Nose

The Epic has a fresh and creamy aroma of grapefruit and nutmeg, with a hint of Cujamara Split in the combination of vanilla cream and passion fruit. There are also touches of melon, banana, pear, and nectarine. In short: This is a must-drink.

Palate

On the palate, the Epic delivers what it promises. It’s the ideal soda, one that doesn’t require any head-scratching, but is simply well-made and sophisticated. The sparkling wine is comparatively dry, the perlage pleasantly calm and not overly foamy, and the fruit is once again a mix of tropical and local tutti frutti. Added to that is a subtle spice and a sparkling, lively acidity. Tasted in July 2024
