Wine Information

The domaine has 13 plots in various districts of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, and thus a variety of soil types, such as quartzite gravel, clay, red sandstone, colluvium, and chalky limestone from the Barremian period. The proportion of grape varieties used in the cuvée varies from year to year, but is generally 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah, and 3% Cinsault. The grapes are harvested by hand, pre-sorted in the vineyard, and then brought to the winery in 50-kg crates, placed on the sorting table, destemmed, pressed, and chilled. Fermentation is spontaneous and temperature-controlled. Maceration lasts four to five weeks with daily pumping over. The wine then ages for 18 months, primarily in concrete, but also in multi-year-old barrels and barriques.

Nose

The 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape opens with an elegant, fine, and complex nose of violets and anise, a hint of pepper and garrigue, as well as juicy notes of dark raspberries, black cherries, and blackberries. In the background, one senses a bouquet garni and some crushed stone. The cuvée appears very pleasantly transparent and clear.

Patch

On the palate, Sophie Armenier and her son Vincėnt Estevenin have given the wine an extremely elegant texture. The 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is absolutely classic and timeless, with its red and dark fruit, a distinct licorice note typical of the Grenache content, and a hint of garrigue. The alcohol warms the palate and finish, but is well integrated. The cuvée already presents itself with a fine melt and great length.
