The grapes for the Eichhorn come from the Terlaner Lieben Aich vineyard and the Eichhorn vineyard, a southwest slope at 300 m above sea level with sandy loam soils on weathered porphyry. Despite a challenging year with a wet spring and a hot, dry summer, the 2023 Eichhorn was harvested at the end of September after a long ripening period. The destemmed grapes underwent an eight-hour maceration period before pressing, before the must fermented spontaneously in wood and aged on the fine lees for nine months.

Color

Intense straw yellow with bright reflections.

Nose

The 2023 Eichhorn from Manincor appears generally more generous than usual on the nose, which is due to the long ripening period. Beneath the initial reduction, the rich fruit of the vintage reveals itself with increasing aeration: yellow pears, green apricots, mellow apples, and orange blossoms in the top note fill its fruit basket. Nuts and roasted cereals are added. The reduction transforms into a smoky note, lending it a bold touch, in stark contrast to its otherwise crystalline nature.

Palate

The first sip also reveals its expansive, generous side: The ripe, super-juicy fruit radiates in yellow abundance across the entire palate, reminiscent of the waxed skins of rosy-cheeked apples. Roasted and salted hazelnuts, dried flowers, and barley grit complement the parade; the viscous texture is outlined by delicate phenolics on the lower tongue. A very gastronomic Eichhorn.
