Wine Information

This single-varietal Tempranillo comes from organic vineyards in the Basque region of Rioja (Alavesa). The chalky and clayey vineyards are located at an altitude of 570 to 590 meters in the municipalities of Elvillar and Vinaspre, and the average age of the vines is 40 years. This altitude, which is considerable for northern Spain, ensures cooler nights and longer ripening periods for the grapes. This allows the normally early-ripening Tempranillo to better preserve its acidity and fresh fruit aromas in this cooler part of Rioja. This red wine was aged for six months in oak barrels.

Nose

The Maisulan 6 presents itself on the nose with blue and black fruits that are both ripe and fresh. The bouquet is well-balanced and underpinned by an attractive earthiness that provides a certain depth.

Palate

This red wine impresses on the palate with its fresh acidity, juicy fruit, and good tension, combined with a medium to full-bodied finish. The higher the vineyards in Rioja Alavesa go and the farther the distance from the Ebro River (and this is true for the vineyards for the “Maisulan 6”), the darker the fruit tends to be and the denser the tannin structure. This is also noticeable in this wine, which, in this sense, offers a superb expression of the local terroir. Furthermore, the wine is a pleasure to drink.
