Product description for Maison Stephan Condrieu “Le Tinal” AOC 2022 (bio)
Info
The Condrieu Le Tinal comes from a plot of just 0.17 hectares in the municipality of Verin. Magnesium iron mica and granite are found in the subsoil of the Le Tinal vineyard. The vineyard is planted with 100% doré Viognier from a Massale selection. The vines are 35 years old and produce a yield of approximately 35 hl/ha. Maison Stephan stands for absolute low-intervention winemaking. No additives, pesticides, fungicides, filtration, or anything similar are used. Sulfur is almost zero. The must is cold macerated and pressed under carbon dioxide pressure. Vinification takes place in used barrels and is regulated at approximately 20°C. Aging takes place for twelve months in small oak barrels from the Tronçais, the Alps, and the Caucasus.
Colour
Bright lemon yellow with golden reflections and light effervescence.
Nose
The aroma of this Viognier is captivating. The tropical fruit vacillates indecisively between mango, grilled pineapple, and passion fruit. Grapefruit, blood orange, papaya, and lychee also play a role. Pickled peach and ripe pear bridge the gap to local fruits. The fruit appears rich and inviting. Acacia blossom and the scent of blooming almond trees waft from the glass. A touch of maple syrup and date lends it a deeper dimension. Candied ginger and orange and lemon zest complement this wonderfully. Thyme, lemon balm, and parsley add strong accents to the nose. Plenty of coriander seeds add an invigorating touch from the spicy side. Vegetable notes include the scent of fennel and artichoke. A very diverse nose that leaves you clueless as to what type of wine awaits us.
Palate
The 2022 Condrieu Le Tinal is clearly a taut representative of its grape variety. The fruit also clearly characterizes the flavour on the palate, but is forced into a very tight corset. This also increases the importance of the acid peaks, which, in Viognier, are of the highest quality in terms of drinking flow. Its structure is taut, and it seems enormously stimulating to me. The fine acid peaks also enhance the herbal, ethereal aromas. Le Tinal is also a very lean type of wine that succeeds in showing its origins while shedding the usual attributes of its guild.
