Wine Information

This Riesling comes from the Maustal vineyard, a four-hectare vineyard south of Sulzfeld am Main, facing south and southeast. The steep slope is characterized by barren and skeletal Upper Muschelkalk. The vines from this site are the oldest vines planted by the vineyard itself. As always at the Zehnthof Luckert winery, the grapes are harvested and destemmed by hand, allowed a somewhat longer maceration period, and fermented spontaneously. Luckert’s wines are matured in classic double-barreled Franconian oak barrels.

Colour

Bright, light golden yellow with delicate green reflections.

Nose

Due to its youth, the 2022 Sulzfelder Maustal Riesling GG still appears firm and closed on the nose, with a compact minerality pervading. After sufficient aeration, which it requires, aromas of green apple, lime, and citrus emerge. Coriander and mustard flour pair with yeasty and resinous notes, and fresh, almost ethereal notes of lemon balm, sorrel, and mint give it a wonderfully fresh and playful appearance despite its compactness.

Palate

On the palate, it appears dense and razor-sharp. It presents itself with crisp acidity and pronounced spice, which again reveals citrus and apple components in the finish. It will be extremely exciting to follow the development of this wine over the next few years; it already shines with beauty, density, and verve. Patience is required, and those who want to enjoy it now should definitely decant it and not serve it too cold from large glasses.
