Product description for Loimer Pinot Noir 2021 (bio)
Wine Information
The interplay of climate and soil in the Kamptal wine-growing region forms the basis for the character of this Pinot. Foothills of the Pannonian climate, named after the Roman province in eastern Austria and western Hungary, bring hot, dry days to the region. Cool air currents from the higher Waldviertel region mix and “spice” the air, which can reach temperatures of up to 38°C. On the one hand, you can find Gföhler Gneiss, the primary rock from which the hills of the Kamptal were formed. Above this lies cambisol. Sometimes there is also a layer of limestone in between. On the other hand, there is loess, airborne dust from the Ice Age that has compacted into fertile soil. And finally, the clay soils that lie directly on the banks of the Kamp.
Vine Information
Selective hand-harvesting in 20 kg crates; Gumpoldskirchen September 16th. and Langenlois on September 27th and October 13th, 2021. Maceration time: 3 weeks. This was followed by spontaneous fermentation of 100% whole grapes in wooden fermentation vats at a maximum of 28°C for 4 weeks. The wine was aged for 12 months in small 300-liter oak barrels and 6 months in large oak barrels, with 4 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. Bottling took place unfiltered with a small addition of sulphur in August 2023.
Colour
Muted ruby red with hints of plum.
Nose
The 2021 Pinot Noir from Loimer is a refined nose. Fragrant wild raspberries, ripe plums, blueberries, wild roses, ivy, and violets captivate the nose with incredible intensity. Wild Mediterranean herbs, graphite, and delicate hints of pepper and cedarwood wonderfully encompass its feminine and seductive character. You immediately look forward to tasting it.
Palate
On the palate, it impresses with pure elegance and invigorating freshness thanks to its fine acidity and fine-grained tannin structure. It flirts with its delicate, sweet fruit, and its moderate alcohol content of 12% leaves you wanting more. Perfect with dishes with sweet and aromatic influences.
