Description
Product description for Loimer Anning Pinot Noir 2020 (bio)
The Pinot Noir is grown in Gumpoldskirchen in the Braun and Stocknarrn vineyards at an altitude of 240 to 270 meters above sea level. The subsoil is rich in limestone, interspersed with sedimentary gravel. These two vineyards were planted 12 and 15 years ago, respectively. A low yield of just 25 hl per hectare forms the basis for the 2020 Anning Pinot Noir. 2020 began with a very dry start. The long-awaited rain only arrived in May and continued to fall at regular intervals. A good water supply ensured that the grapes remained healthy well into August. There were no extreme heat waves during the summer. The interplay of humans, animals, and plants in the biodynamic cycle comes into its own in a year like this. The manual harvest in 20 kg crates took place on September 10 and 16, 2020. The mash stood with stems, meaning whole, unpressed grapes, in the press. Fermentation took place spontaneously for two weeks at a maximum temperature of 29°C in a 2200-liter oak fermentation stand. Aging then took place for twelve months in 300-liter oak barrels and six months in large oak vats. Bottled without filtration in August 2022.
Colour
Dark cherry red with light and violet reflections.
Nose
The nose is rich with spices and wintery nuances. Juniper, red and black pepper, and plenty of cedarwood leave their mark. Star anise, cinnamon, and speculaas immediately evoke memories of the cold season. Morello cherry, plum, and plenty of sweet cherry sweeten this aroma. A hint of dark chocolate and ethereal licorice mingle with it. The fruit then develops slightly towards elderberry, and coriander and fennel seeds become increasingly noticeable.
Palate
These thoughts are already evident on the first sip. It presents itself with a silky appearance, enveloping the palate with great elegance. The fruit is significantly enhanced by a very active and positively noteworthy acid structure. This gives it enormous drinkability and elegance, which was not initially expected from this nose. The spiciness remains evident, however, and leaves its mark. Its silky appearance also provides it with plenty of finesse and, surprisingly, makes it seem quite cool.
