Product description for Lesuffleur Friardel Poiré 2018
Wine Information
Friardel is a vineyard located in the Normandy commune of Friardel in the Calvados region. The parent rock is chalk, the subsoil consists of clay and flint, and the topsoil of silt and blue flint. Friardel Poiré is the fruit of a single, over 200-year-old, giant pear tree of a now unknown variety. The pears were hand-picked and spontaneously fermented, bottled using the Méthode Traditionelle method on March 2, 2019, and disgorged on December 6, 2021.
Colour
Intense gold and orange, shimmering into amber, with a lively mousse.
Nose
Friardel Poiré is a sparkling pear wine with aromas of ripe must pear and iodine, combined with Geuze beer, a touch of blond tobacco, some warm pear tart, and cool crushed stone.
Palate
On the palate, this poiré from a single giant tree is a revelation of finesse and depth, with a playful sweetness in the otherwise muted, tart, intense aromas of pear and pear quince, apple and clear, clean must, blond tobacco, tart kumquat peel, again a touch of iodine and Geuze. The mousse acts like an infusion, the tannin creates a slight resistance on the palate, the fruit is intense, the acidity more silky than punchy. The freshness is provided by both the tannin and the lively minerality.
