Product description for Larmandier-Bernier Latitude, Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut NV
Wine
The Chardonnay vines of Latitude (formerly Tradition) come from the somewhat flatter, warmer southern vineyards of Vertus. The Latitude is a cuvée of wines from up to six vintages. It is aged sur lattes for 24 months, disgorged, and receives four grams of dosage.
Colour
Lemon yellow, lively, large-bubble mousse.
Nose
The Blanc de Blancs from Vertus shows its light, clear, and herbaceous side. Even on the nose, the Latitude appears completely dry, chalky, and citrusy, with fruit reminiscent of white strawberries. Above all, however, it is the herbs and a slightly tart scent of tonic water that play the main role here.
Palate
On the palate, the Latitude is extremely precise, clear, and pure. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a young Blanc de Blancs from the chalk. At the same time, a certain richness, as the English would put it, is also noticeable. It’s the warmth of the southern Vertus vineyards that comes through here, lending the wine a beautiful fullness and depth.

The latest rendition of Larmandier-Bernier’s NV Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Latitude is based on the 2021 vintage (60%), vinified entirely in wood and complemented by a perpetual blend dating back to 2004. Parcels on richer soils, mostly east- and southeast-facing, deliver rounder, fuller-bodied wines, and this holds true even in the context of the 2021 vintage. Unfurling from the glass with scents of pear, acacia and pastry, it is more ample than the Longitude, with ripe yet vibrant acidity and a pillowy mousse. Disgorged in February 2024 with a dosage of three grams per liter, it will make for a great comparison when tasted alongside the Longitude.

The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Latitude 1er Cru is bright, punchy and full of character. Quite floral in this release, the Latitude is all energy. White flowers, pear, mint, white pepper and chalk all race across the palate. This release is a blend of 60% 2021 and 40% reserve wines from a perpetual blend that began in 2004. This is all class. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: February 2024.
