Description
Product description for Lacourte-Godbillon Rosé, Premier Cru Brut NV
The winery of Geraldine Lacourte and her husband Richard Desvignes (what a beautiful name for a winemaker!) is located in Ecueil, in the heart of the Petit Montagne de Reims. They focus entirely on the 1er Cru vineyards in this location, which means short distances and they spend a lot of time in their vineyards. They converted to organic viticulture in 2016, and their vineyards are bursting with vitality. Both have seen a lot of the world and only decided late in life to take over Geraldine’s parents’ estate. Geraldine worked in marketing in Germany for years! The style is therefore not outdated, but rather modern. The base wines are fermented in stainless steel and do not necessarily make the malolactic fermentation (MLF). Only a portion is aged in barriques. Very clear, precise, and taut, they beautifully reflect their origins, never aggressive, always with fine fruit and elegant depth.
Colour
Light rosé with orange reflections.
Nose
Aromas of hay, pickled raspberries, rhubarb, cranberries, and currant leaves form the silhouette of the restrained, herbaceous, and slightly smoky nose. The Rosé 1er Cru Brut from Lacourte-Godbillon was made from 80% of the 2014 vintage and matured in the bottle for 45 months until disgorged in December 2018. With some aeration, the delicate fruit combines with the floral top note of mallow and initial notes of ripeness.
Palate
A fruity and tart entry, it is carried by its fine mousse and delicate phenolic components. This rosé made from 100% Pinot Noir was aged 10% in wood and combines subtle bass with floral and fruity aromas and a sophisticated drinkability. The kernel oil from the raspberry and the wood from the blackcurrant define the tart, stimulating palate with a long, finely bitter finish.

The NV Extra Brut Rosé Premier Cru is a pure Pinot Noir, 40% was aged in small oak, while an addition of 6% red wine created the darkish pink hue, the base vintage is 2020 with 45% of reserve wines. Crushed red apple flesh and red plum notes create a rich and almost mellow nose that promises generosity. The palate delivers immediately with creamy apple flesh and a rounded, smooth body with notions of saltiness and white pepper spice around the edges. A richer, rounder rosé with quite some softness destined for the table. Dosage is 3.5gr/L. Disgorged: March 23, 2023. – Anne Krebiehl MW
