Product description for Lacourte-Godbillon Mi-Pentes, Premier Cru Extra Brut L2019+Réserve NV
The winery of Géraldine Lacourte and her husband Richard Desvignes is located in Écueil, in the heart of the Petit Montagne de Reims. They focus entirely on the 1er Cru vineyards in this area, which allows them to travel as quickly as possible and spend a lot of time in their vineyards. The business converted to organic viticulture in 2016. Both have seen a great deal of the world and only recently decided to take over the winery from Géraldine’s parents. Géraldine worked in marketing in Germany for years, so the winery’s style is rather modern. The base wines are fermented in stainless steel and do not necessarily undergo malolactic fermentation. Only a portion is aged in barriques. Very clear, precise, and taut, they reflect their origins, always characterized by fine fruit and elegant depth. The Mi-Pentes is a blend of five vineyards and two vintages, consisting of 100% Pinot Noir, with 66% from the 2019 vintage and 34% from reserve wines from the 2018 vintage. The wines were aged on their lees for nine months, 44% of which in 228-liter barrels. Bottled in June 2020, disgorged in January 2024 with a dosage of 2.5 grams.
Colour
Bright straw yellow.
Nose
Roasted hazelnuts, citrus, rosy-cheeked apples like Rubinette, and wet chalk, along with notes of Gran Reserva ham, outline the nose of the Mi-Pentes 1er Cru Extra Brut from Lacourte-Godbillon. With 42 months on the lees, the autolysis notes are surprisingly disciplined and frame the fruity, expansive overall appearance of this recently disgorged champagne.
Palate
The perlage is currently finding its footing and acts as a stringently taut guide on the palate, where it presents itself with considerable generosity and generousness. Clearly defined as a structural sparkling wine, it oscillates between pure fruit and delicate spice with a precise structure and a juicy, creamy feel. The aging in wood and the low dosage lend it a smooth, distinctively hedonistic flow. With a rich bass on the mid-palate, it rushes effortlessly into a finish flanked by fine phenolics.
