Product description for Lacourte-Godbillon Brut Nature, Premier Cru L2019+Réserve NV
The winery of Géraldine Lacourte and her husband Richard Desvignes is located in Écueil, in the heart of the Petit Montagne de Reims. They focus entirely on the 1er Cru vineyards in this location, which allows them to travel as quickly as possible and spend a lot of time in their vineyards. The business converted to organic viticulture in 2016. Both have seen a lot of the world and only decided late in life to take over the winery from Géraldine’s parents. Géraldine worked in marketing in Germany for years, so the winery’s style is rather modern. The base wines are fermented in stainless steel and do not necessarily undergo malolactic fermentation. Only a portion is aged in barriques. Very clear, precise, and taut, they reflect their origins, always characterized by fine fruit and elegant depth. The Brut Nature Premier Cru is a blend of 54% Pinot Noir and 46% Chardonnay, with base wines from 2019 and 20% reserve wines. The wine rested on the lees for nine months and was aged in used oak (66%) before bottling in July 2020. Disgorged on March 6, 2024, the dosage is 0 grams.
Colour
Light yellow, bright, and clear.
Nose
The nose balances between citrus-fruity and salty-iodic autolysis notes: candied lemon peel, lemon oil, mesocarp, and salted lemons fill the fruit basket and are underscored by chalky accents reminiscent of oyster shells and a rain-soaked gravel driveway in front of a Bordeaux château on the left bank. Aromas of grain, roasted malt, and distinctive autolysis notes of warm yeast plaited bread promise a chalky, austere Champagne pleasure.
Palate
The Premier Cru Brut Nature from Lacourte-Godbillon is impetuous on the palate, with a free-spirited nature. Its natural style is confidently rooted in the yeast-driven genre, yet it is focused, rich in extract, and, with a declared 0 grams of dosage, bone-dry. Striking with a sinewy stature and vibrant tension on the palate, it polarizes and is more auteur cinema than a popcorn blockbuster. Its subtle smoky minerality and saline, austere finish lend it a touch of the Nouvelle Vague with a distinctive aftertaste.
