Wine Information

The La Bonnode vineyard borders the La Combe Desroches vineyard and covers two hectares at an altitude of 250 m, facing east, at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson. The 35-year-old vines are largely surrounded by mature shrubs. The soils of limestone marl and light clay are ideal for Chardonnay. The harvest lasted from August 29 to September 3, 2022. The Chardonnay was whole-bunch pressed and fermented spontaneously. It then aged for 17 months in foudres and 228-liter vats. Malolactic fermentation followed. The total sulphur content is 37 mg/l, and the pH is 3.36.

Nose

The 2022 La Bonnode Cuvée Zen is one of four differently aged Bonnodes, and it is exciting to compare these wines side by side. Zen appears similarly fresh and powerful to La Bonnode, but you have the feeling of smelling a little more walnut and sherry, or of holding an oxidatively aged wine in the glass. There is a lot of green and yellow lemon in the form of juice and zest, along with a hint of smoke and stone. This makes you want to take the first sip.

Palate

On the palate, La Bonnode Cuvée Zen appears a little silkier and more sensual than La Bonnode, bringing a little more creaminess to the palate. The acidity seems a little more integrated, but still impressively firm and powerful. The wine remains clear, juicy and fresh with lots of citrus, a hint of toffee, green pineapple, green pear and lots of stone and salt on the finish.
