Product description for La Soufrandière Saint-Véran Climat “La Bonnode” AOC 2022 (bio)
Wine Information
The La Bonnode vineyard borders the La Combe Desroches vineyard and covers two hectares at an altitude of 250 m, facing east, at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson. The 35-year-old vines are largely surrounded by mature shrubs. The soils of limestone marl and light clay are ideal for Chardonnay. The harvest lasted from August 29 to September 3, 2022. The Chardonnay was whole-bunch pressed and fermented spontaneously. It then aged for 17 months in foudres and 228-liter vats. Malolactic fermentation followed. The total sulphur content is 46 mg/l, and the pH is 3.21.
Colour
light golden yellow
Nose
The 2022 La Bonnode is one of four differently aged Bonnodes, and it is interesting to compare these wines side by side. This Saint-Véran is all about the balance between coolness and warmth, freshness and creaminess in a mixture of lemons with juice, seeds and peel, some green pineapple, star fruit, and Reine Claude. In the background, a bit of smoke, stone, and nuttiness.
Palate
On the palate, it is impressive how much acidity La Bonnode in southern Burgundy brings to the actually partly hot and dry 2022. There is not only power, but also a lot of tension, density, and precision. You can already detect the ripe citrus fruit and partly yellow stone fruit that is typical of the South of the region in the wine, but everything is permeated with vitality, freshness, and saltiness.

Score: 90
The 2022 Saint-Véran Climat La Bonnode, which is, in fact, the source for the Aligoté, has plenty of yellow fruit on the nose. It’s well-defined with melted candle wax and pressed white flowers. The palate is nicely balanced and citrus-driven on the entry: orange zest mixed with pear and lychee. It flows nicely towards its composed finish. This marks a step up from the previous vintage.
