Wine Information

The Les Quarts vineyard is undoubtedly one of the best terroirs in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation. The beautifully situated vineyard faces southeast and is home to 48- to 80-year-old Chardonnay vines planted on siliceous, particularly iron-rich, clay and limestone soils from the Bajocian (Jura) period. Since 2008, the vineyard has been plowed by horse. The grapes were hand-harvested from August 26 to 27, 2022, whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation, followed by aging for 17 months, initially in barrels and foudres for 11 months, and then in foudres with 100% malolactic fermentation. The total sulphur content is 34 mg/l. The pH is 3.18.

Colour

Light golden yellow

Nose

The 2022 Les Quarts Cuvée Zen presents itself similarly to its counterpart without the “Zen” character, with a waxy note, although this is considerably less intense. Instead, there are more tart citrus notes, less ripe stone fruit and toffee, but more verbena and mint. The wine really does seem like a sibling, but a bit firmer and more citrusy.

Palate

The same phenomenon also applies to the Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts Cuvée Zen on the palate. It appears tranquil and balanced between juicy, lining fruit, which is also dominated by stone fruit and yellow pome fruit, but above all by citrus fruits. The acidity, which builds tension and provides punch, is even more present. The finish is salty and tart with pure citrus fruit and a light tannin.
