Wine Information

The Bret brothers own 0.54 hectares in the Climat Les Longeays in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation. The beautifully situated vineyard is located at an altitude of 210 meters, directly adjacent to Les Quarts, facing south-southeast. It features 38-year-old Chardonnay vines planted on partly ferrous clay and limestone soils from the Bajocian region (Jura). The wines produced there are long-lasting, balanced wines. Hand-harvested on August 25, 2020, whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation, followed by aging for 17 months, initially in pièces for 11 months and then in foudres with 100% malolactic fermentation. The added sulphur is 50 mg/l, depending on the barrel.

Nose

The 2020 Les Longeays is a lively, bright, and fresh Chardonnay, ranging from limes and lemon peel to broom, a touch of jasmine and verbena, green pears and green plums, rounded off with distinct limestone.

Palate

On the palate, the Pouilly-Vinzelles builds up considerable momentum, appearing somewhat cooler and firmer than in the last two years. Ripe and unripe almonds are present here, as are the aforementioned, predominantly citrus fruit notes, which interact with the lively acidity, while the long lees aging ensures smoothness and elegance on the palate. In the finish, there is a hint of rock salt and the finest tannins, which more than lives up to Les Longeays’ reputation as a very good textured wine.
