Product description for La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles AOC 2022 (bio)
Wine Information
This wine comes from two hectares of 40- to 55-year-old Chardonnay vines at an altitude of 230 meters in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation, planted on clay and limestone soils from the Bajocian region (Jura). Harvested by hand from August 23 to 29, 2022 (the label says September, but this is a copy-and-paste error). Whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation followed, followed by aging of 80% in tanks and 20% in 228-liter flasks with 100% malolactic fermentation. Total sulphur is 36 mg/l, and the pH is 3.24.
Colour
Intense straw yellow
Nose
The 2022 Pouilly-Vinzelles from La Soufrandière is a Chardonnay that appears rather shy on the nose, certainly more so than its Zen counterpart, which uses slightly fewer sulfites. It smells citrusy and of crisp pear and apple notes, some yellow plum and carambola. Added to this is a warm, creamy aspect with a hint of patisserie, then a chalky note, garnished with white flowers.
Palate
On the palate, the Chardonnay is silky, juicy, round, and sensual, with ripe citrus and stone fruit, as well as white peach. The acid structure is distinctive yet quite silky, contributing to the sensual impression that remains present until the long finish, where the wine is carried by a tannin until the end.

Score: 89
The 2022 Pouilly-Vinzelles is a selection of almost half of Les Quartz with a small parcel of Au Bourgeois just in front of Les Bouchardières. I appreciate the well-defined aromatics: orchard fruit commingling with candle wax and a hint of lanolin. The palate is nicely balanced with tangy marmalade and Clementine notes. There’s a keen line of acidity, but it just misses a little complexity on the finish. But it will still drink well for 5-6 years.
