Description

Product description for La Soufrandière Pouilly-Fuissé Climat 1er Cru “Au Vignerais” AOC 2022 (bio)

Wine Information

The Bret brothers own 0.49 hectares in the Climat Au Vignerais vineyard in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Located on the southern slope of the Roche de Solutré at an altitude of 310 meters, the vineyard features 35-year-old Chardonnay vines planted on ferrous red clay and limestone soils from the Bajocian (Jura) period. Hand-harvested on August 27, 2022, whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation were performed, followed by aging for 17 months in seven- to 18-year-old barrels with 100% malolactic fermentation. No fining or filtration. The pH is 3.50, and the total sulphur is 37 mg/l.

Colour

Intense, bright, golden yellow

Nose

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Au Vignerais is sensual, yet powerful and citrusy, even in its aroma. The citrus fruits are ripe and yellow, accompanied by salted lemon notes and a hint of lanolin, sour cream, and biscuits.

Palate

On the palate, the wine fully lives up to its 1er Cru status. It is complex, deep, and sensual, with tension and length, a creamy texture, and yet, from the very first moment, you can feel a vibrant tension on the tip of your tongue. The intensity of the fresh, creamy lemon notes is just as appetizing as the slightly chalky and iodine notes. This is a wonderfully balanced, harmonious, ripe, powerful, and fresh Pouilly-Fuissé.

Vinous

Score: 89

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Climat Au Vignerais 1er Cru, which comes from south-facing vines in Solutré, offers slightly more exotic scents of wild peach, lychee and lanolin on the nose. It is well-defined and quite expressive. The palate has a slight viscosity that is counterbalanced by the acidity. It is richer in style, perhaps atypical in style for the Domaine, considering the fatness, especially on the finish. Maybe it’s just a little too rich?
