Product description for Kühling-Gillot Nackenheim Riesling trocken VDP Erste Lage 2023 (bio)
Information on the site
In Nackenheim, the mighty clay slate bank of the Roter Hang pushes its way to the surface before disappearing underground again a few kilometers further south near Nierstein. The Kühling Gillot winery now owns plots in all the exciting locations of the Roter Hang, and after extensive replanting, the vines in Nackenheim in particular have reached the right age for a great wine.
Information on the vinification
The wine was aged in large, old barrels with long lees storage.
Colour
Light, radiant golden yellow with green reflections.
Nose
The aroma of the 2023 Nackenheimer Riesling VDP.Erste Lage is minerally complex and, due to its youth, still somewhat reserved. Clearly recognizable is its smoky, stony character and the wonderful, juicy yellow fruit of apricots, orange zest, a hint of ginger, and countless meadow herbs. A truly inviting style, perfectly tempting to savour after sufficient exposure to oxygen.
Palate
Juicy and charming, it flows over the tongue; salty notes mingle with its stimulating fruit, and the fine tannins provide structure and enhance its expression, complexity, and length. A wine that thrives on further ageing and the accompaniment of aromatic and intense cuisine.

Score: 92
The 2023 Nackenheim Riesling 1G is deep, pure and complex on the savory and remarkably intense nose that reveals weathered slate as well as ripe, tropical fruit aromas on an iodine bed. Savory, fresh and stimulating on the palate, this full-bodied wine is very mineral, saline and finely grippy, developing a long, intense and powerful yet not alcoholic finish. 12% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

The 2023 Riesling Nackenheim end picked in the Red Slope, from the parcels of Engelsberg Erste Lage and the younger vines of Rothenberg. Iron oxide, red apple and green citrus unite on the savory nose, with just a touch of flintiness still ringing in the distance. The palate is fluid and smooth, suggesting riper citrus like tangerine in all this energetic flow. Citrus tanginess makes for a lip-smacking finish. (Bone-dry)
