Christoph Raffelt: On the palate, the sweet Muscat is wonderfully cool, fresh, and bright, with a zesty, mineral acidity and a whole basketful of yellow fruits. Apple, pear, but above all lemon, grapefruit, and a slice of bitter orange are accompanied by herbs, a hint of blossom honey, and a slightly tart, yet refreshing note. Tokaji can be so prancing, so floatingly light, yet intense.

Wine Information

This selection from the Danczka vineyard is made from 100% Sárga Muskotály (Yellow Muscat). The grapes were harvested on September 17 and 18, 2018. After spontaneous fermentation, the wine matured in 2.25-hectoliter foudres made of Slavonian oak. After six months, it was bottled at 11% alcohol, 153 grams of residual sugar, and 6.87 grams of acidity at a pH of 3.29.

Nose

The 2018 “Patricia” cuvée presents itself delicately and elegantly, with an opening of lemon curd and vanilla in lukewarm puff pastry. This is underscored by notes of linden blossom and rose, with some cool stone and mint underneath. One senses the concentration and sweetness, but the wine’s aroma is lively and bright.

Palate

The palate also has everything that characterized the enchantingly beautiful nose – only expanded by a few layers. The slightly viscous, silky creaminess adds a touch of nobility. There’s also the acidity, which is present and vital, balancing the 153 grams of residual sweetness but by no means overpowering it. There’s also the subtle bitterness of lemon peel soaked in limoncello, another component of mint, but also a touch of sage, which together add further complexity to the overall impression. Ultimately, one gets the impression that the “Patricia” cuvée becomes increasingly brighter and weightless toward the finish, despite the wine’s concentration and richness.
