Nose

The 2020 Großes Gewächs Riesling dry from the Eitelsbach Karthäuserhofberg whets your appetite from the very first moment. The aroma of meringue with ripe pineapple, butterscotch, and lemon tart combined with herbs, rocks, lemon zest, and yeast is irresistible. While sweet aromas emerge here, the Großes Gewächs is simultaneously bright, clear, and prancing.

Palate

On the palate, the Riesling proves to be juicy, creamy, and cool with a stony and tart component. In fact, you involuntarily have to readjust your palate, as the Großes Gewächs is naturally a dry wine and the nose was so seductive. The Riesling is currently still a little herbal and yeasty. It needs air and time to allow the delicate aromas of herbs and bright fruit to develop. You can detect a beautiful arc of tension in the acid structure, a light smokiness of crushed wet slate with a hint of petrichor, and a subtle salinity in the already long finish.

The 2020 Riesling Karthäuserhofberg Grosses Gewächs was harvested in the poor soils of the Kronenberg parcel of this ancient mountain, at the top, turning south-southwest and benefiting from the evening sun. The nose has earth tones, ripe yellow pear and baked pear. A slight lift in the background adds dried lemon peel. The palate still has yeasty funk and smoothness that channels pure lemon freshness alongside gentle, yeasty creaminess. The finish is slightly diffused but fresh and dry. Very textured. (Bone-dry)
