The 2023 Velue Red is a cuvée of 80% Zweigelt, 15% Merlot, and a complementary 5% Regent. The idea behind it is a juicy, fruity red wine in the entry-level segment that can also be enjoyed chilled. The Zweigelt used for this wine grows in three smaller plots with forty-year-old vines that have pure sand-lime brick in the subsoil. The Zweigelt is fermented on the grapes for four days. The Merlot grows on clay in a small, slightly north-facing vineyard. This vineyard is fermented on the whole bunches for five days. The Regent comes from a high plateau on loess with 24-year-old vines, which are pressed directly.

Colour

Bright purple with low density and light, bluish reflections.

Nose

The nose is initially clearly on the fruity side. It is peppered with spicy accents. Elderberry, sweet cherry, raspberry, and cassis stand out. Black pepper, allspice, and juniper add the spicy touch. It subtly recalls lactic elements, and thus the Campina cherry and cream candy. Lemon balm, sage, and mint provide freshness and vitality.

Palate

This juicy fruitiness also shines through on the palate. Juicy and astringent. It’s like biting into a handful of ripe berries. This is incredibly stimulating and ensures a long drinking experience. Here, too, the lactic component reappears. However, the acidity constantly breaks this up again. Its fruit appears crisp and stretches vertically.
