Description
Product description for Jeaunaux-Robin Instinct Meunier Brut Nature 2018
Cyril Jeaunaux is the third generation of winegrowers and converted to biodynamic farming in 2015. In the very south of the Côte des Blancs, on the Petit Morin stream, lies the small village of Tallus Les Prix. Here, Champagne still truly remains rural. There is nothing reminiscent of luxury or the jet set. Cool air from the surrounding hills puts the vineyards in the valley at risk of late frost. Pinot Meunier, which dominates here, is best equipped to withstand this. A small portion of the grapes comes from the Côte des Bar, where Cyril still cultivates one hectare of vineyards. The wines are aged in used barriques. Malolactic fermentation is avoided whenever possible. This produces truly individual and honest Champagnes that combine stimulating acidity, minerality, and drinkability.
Info
Instinct Meunier is based on the Le Grand Morceau plot and is blessed with 59-year-old vines. Flint and clay are found in the soil. The base wine is aged in barrels dating back to 2004. Malolactic fermentation does not occur. Tirage in 2019, 0g dosage.
Colour
Sparkling lemon yellow with delicate orange reflections and very even perlage.
Nose
On the nose, the Instinct Meunier Brut Nature from Jeaunaux-Robin combines yellow fruit with buttery aspects and slightly maritime notes. Mirabelle plum, a touch of ripe pineapple, and peach come to the fore. This is followed by a series of typical aromas. Butter brioche, slightly toasted and warmly scented, makes it hard to resist. Very subtle Bourbon vanilla and vanilla croissants also emerge. On the maritime side, it displays plenty of sea spray and oyster shell. The whole thing is rounded off with a touch of cold smoke.
Palate
On the first sip, it is considerably tighter and clearer than its nose would suggest. It is consistently dry, as its name suggests, and thus cuts through the fruit. Its gripping acidity immediately builds up real pressure on the palate. Sparkling wine for advanced drinkers. Its compact mineral film settles over the surface of the teeth and settles there. Wonderful. It challenges and inspires at the same time. At the end, it reveals pleasant bitterness that complements the fruit wonderfully. In the aftertaste, the oyster shell, combined with lemon zest, comes across perfectly and, above all, for a long time.
