Description

Product description for Huet Le Haut-Lieu demi-sec 2018 (bio)

Christoph Raffelt: On the palate, the approximately 18 grams of sweetness are excellently buffered by the acidity. Despite its 13.5% alcohol content, the wine seems almost as floating as a Kabinett, and that is fascinating. The Demi-sec is so juicy, so creamy, and at the same time so elegant, with finely chiseled acidity and a fresh minerality that, like all components in Huet’s wines, is not initially noticeable as an individual ingredient, but rather as part of the consistently harmonious overall composition. Here, too, one is willing to keep pouring and quickly consume any supply, even though the wine naturally has great future potential.

Wine Information

During a visit to the village of Vouvray in 1928, the Huet family fell in love with the charm of this property, which included a five-hectare vineyard. Purchased in the same year, it represents the origin of the domaine.

Information on the vineyard

Today, the vineyard consists of fifteen hectares above the Vouvray plateau. The deep brown tone of Haut-Lieu ensures fruitiness and freshness in the wines.

Colour

Sparkling golden yellow.

Nose

The 2018 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Demi Sec presents itself extremely charmingly on the nose. It smells of light fruit, honeydew melon, ripe pineapple, quince compote, and fresh grapefruit. The floral scent, reminiscent of acacia, elderflower, and lilac, and the sweet notes of blossom honey and candied lemon peel are captivating. Its profound minerality and hints of fresh ginger and coriander create a youthful and extremely refreshing impression.

Palate

It presents itself fresh and youthful on the palate. The elegant sweetness is accompanied by a stimulating, playful acidity and a tart grapefruit note – a salty and semi-dry wine that is just beginning to mature and will continue to develop excellently over the coming years. Those who wish to enjoy it now should decant it if possible and enjoy it from a larger glass, not too chilled.

Wine Advocate

Score: 93

The 2018 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Demi-Sec is clear, bright and fresh on the chalky/spicy nose. Round and lush on the palate, the 2018 is a dense, refined and charmingly sweet Haut-Lieu with accessible fruit and a stimulatingly salty finish that reveals very fine tannins and lovely sur-lie texture. This is a delicious Chenin from Vouvray but still young. Tasted in May 2019.

Score: 93

The 2018 Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu offers up a beguiling mix of candied lemon peel, passion fruit, jasmine, ginger and marzipan. Medium in body and intensely perfumed, the Demi-Sec is so harmonious. Bright saline underpinnings add a lovely counterpoint to the wine’s natural richness.
