Product description for Henri & Gilles Buisson Beaune “Les Associés” rouge AOC 2022 (bio)
Information
Les Associés (formerly simply called Beaune) comes from the two village vineyards of Longbois (share: ¾) and Prevolles (share: ¼) in Beaune. The vines are around 50 years old and are rooted at 230 to 330 meters in deep, brown limestone and alluvial soil. After hand-harvesting, partial destemming and spontaneous fermentation took place in stainless steel cuvées, followed by a mixture of pigeage and remontage, i.e., under-pounding and overflowing of the pomace cap. Malolactic fermentation took place spontaneously in the barrels. Aging lasted for ten to twelve months in a mixture of 228-, 350-, and 500-liter barriques and in tonneaux, of which no more than 10% are replaced annually. The wine was tasted daily, and the barrels were racked whenever Frédéric Buisson deemed it appropriate. The wine was fined with bentonite and filtered very coarsely. Sulfur was only added during bottling, with a maximum of 40 to 50 mg/l of total sulfite. The winery is now Biodyvin-certified.
Colour
Medium, slightly transparent carmine red
Nose
The Beaune Les Associés is a floral and subtly spicy wine with notes of iris, a touch of lilac, raspberries, and wild strawberries, as well as yeast, a touch of peat, and the spice of wood. With aeration, one also finds hints of sour cherries.
Palate
On the palate, the Beaune is impressively fine and elegant, as well as fresh and juicy. The floral notes are still there, as is the fruit, but also a dark, almost earthy note reminiscent of peat and Pommard. The tannin structure and acidity blend perfectly into the overall picture, creating a beautiful, truly sensual Village.

Score: 89
The 2022 Beaune Les Associés (previously Beaune Village) blends two parcels, mainly coming from the top of the incline on limestone soils. The lively bouquet offers dark berry fruit and iris flower, well-delineated and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-chiseled tannins. It’s not a deep or powerful Beaune, yet it is fresh with a lightly spiced, almost Pommard-like finish. Worth seeking out.
