Description

Product description for Heinrich Blaufränkisch 2019 (bio)

Info

Heinrich’s Blaufränkisch generically combines both shores of Lake Neusiedl. While in the west the vines grow on the limestone and slate of the Leitha Mountains, in the east they thrive on the slopes of the Parndorfer Platte on sandy, loamy soils. The spontaneous fermentation of these grapes, which are carefully harvested by hand, takes place for two weeks in wooden fermentation stands and in steel tanks, and is left on the skins. It then matures for years in used 500l oak barrels and in wooden fermentation stands with calm and patience. This 2019 vintage was only bottled in January 2024.

Colour

Dense cherry red with violet reflections

Nose

Dark, cool, and sublime, it builds slowly. Abundant sour cherry, as well as cassis, blackberry, and plum, create dark to sour impressions. Ripe raspberry and mulberry follow closely behind. The fruit is consistently compact and earthy. Beetroot underlines this dark impression. Abundant wet limestone reveals itself in the background. Its ethereal side is restrained. Marjoram and oregano are only faintly evident in dried form. This allows this intense fruit to have an intense and inviting effect.

Palate

The 2019 Blaufränkisch is a very honest wine. Its ripeness is perfect and not at all in the foreground. It is perfectly balanced. Its astringent acidity sets the tone. It presents itself delicately and silky. Smooth in structure and cool in the mouthfeel. Zero tannins to get in the way. The sour cherry really packs a punch. The fruit is generally crystal-clear and wonderfully beautiful. Its cool elements go very well with the light spiciness. In the background, a subtle herbal spice emerges, invigorating and deepening. It is completely at peace and will hopefully retain its honest character for a long time to come.

Wine Advocate

Score: 88

Silvia Heinrich’s screw-capped 2019 Blaufränkisch Ried Goldberg opens with a toasty and oaky scented but polished, spicy and well-concentrated bouquet of ripe dark cherries and black berries with some hints of licorice. Silky textured, fresh and elegant on the palate, this medium to full-bodied red wine reveals intense and aromatic fruit with fine and refreshing tannins and a round, elegant finish with toasty notes and fine bitters. It’s not really long but a classically styled red wine to have with dinner. 13.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap.
