Information about the wine

Vin de Paille is straw wine. The late-harvested grapes are traditionally dried on wooden or straw mats before fermentation. The permitted varieties are Savagnin, Chardonnay, and Poulsard, which are also used at Domaine Grand. The wine ferments in stainless steel and is aged for at least three years in oak barrels, in this case even longer.

Nose

The Vin de Paille has a rich and intense aroma of apricots and peaches, classic English orange marmalade, persimmon, star fruit, and dried figs, combined with a hint of chestnut, nougat, and nut butter.

Palate

When you taste the wine, your heart will sing. Of course, this is a sweet wine, but the sweetness is superbly buffered by the distinctive yet elegant acidity. There’s a deep aromatic quality reminiscent of mocha, nuts, muscovado sugar, black tea and honey, ripe and candied oranges and kumquats, soft apricots, and a hint of ginger. The wine isn’t overpowering, but rather well-balanced in its sweetness, its delicate spice, its deep candied fruit, and its lively acidity.
