Product description for Grand Château-Chalon “En Beaumont” Vin de Voile 2016
The roots of Domaine Grand date back to the 17th century. The Jura winery rose to prominence under the leadership of the Lothain brothers, Dominique and Georges Grand, who significantly shaped its fortunes between 1970 and 2015. Then Emmanuel, Lothain’s son, and his wife Nathalie took over and fundamentally transformed the estate. They reduced the Passenans vineyard from 15 to 10 hectares and introduced organic viticulture. After a three-year trial period, this was officially registered in 2018 and officially certified with the 2021 vintage. The estate’s vineyards extend across the municipalities of Passenans, Saint-Lothain, Arbois, and Ménétru-le-Vignoble. Passenans, part of the Côtes du Jura appellation, boasts the greatest diversity of terroirs. The selection is classic and ranges from Savagnin to Chardonnay to Château-Chalon. The wines are powerful and skillfully aged in oak.
Wine Information
100% Savagnin from Château-Chalon En Beaumont. At the time of harvest, the vineyard was still in the pre-organic phase, but organic viticulture began in 2015. The grapes were picked by hand. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, and aging took place in oak barrels under the flor layer.
Colour
Light amber
Nose
The AOP Château-Chalon Vin Jaune is as intense as its colour suggests. Its aromas include green walnuts, almonds, peat, and ash, paired with bitter oranges and grapefruit peel, iodine, and a hint of yellow curry.
Palate
On the palate, the En Beaumont appears lively and young, creamy and lush with extract sweetness and tannins on the one hand; dry, powerful, and bouncy on the other. Here, too, one finds walnuts and lightly roasted hazelnuts, as well as saffron, candied ginger, iodine again, and plenty of salt, lemon peel, and apples. The En Beaumont is a fully fermented, oxidatively matured, dry yet creamy, inviting, and vibrant wine, full of tension and depth at the beginning of its life, capable of lasting for decades.
