It was around 130 years ago that our great-grandfather Pau Batlle realized that his wines, made from the Xarel-lo grape, had a unique aging potential. Some 70 years later, Josep Lluís and Bartomeu Gramona confirmed this remarkable ability of our Xarel-lo sparkling wines. Gramona always believed that sparkling wines from Penedès must be young and that the excellence of sparkling wines depends equally on the soil, the climate, and the people, as well as on a long aging process. With the aim of furthering this paradigm shift, in 1997 Jaume and Xavier Gramona embraced the idea of elevating the aging of sparkling wines to a level previously unknown to wine lovers. Thus was born Enoteca Gramona, the first sparkling wine to surpass the 10-year aging period of Celler Batlle. With Enoteca, we’ve confirmed our insight: Extending a sparkling wine’s bottle aging time makes it more expressive while retaining an admirable freshness, resulting in a deeper and more complex drinking experience.
