Wine Information

Serrat de la Plane means “stony plateau” in Catalan. This is the name of the place where the vineyard is located, and the wine produced on this extreme site bears the corresponding name. Georg Meissner devotes himself to tending his two vineyards, which were originally intended to be cleared. The old Grenache vineyard is exposed to the wind and stands on dry, stony, weathered gneiss soil. Yields are around 9 hl/ha.

Fairly transparent purple

Nose

The 2022 vintage of Serrat de la Plane impresses from the very first moment with the yin and yang of transparency and density, fullness and clarity, ripeness and coolness. Blackberries, blueberries, mulberries, and cherries can be found here, all of which appear ripe yet crisp. At the same time, one finds cool notes of graphite, wet rock, then crushed nutshells, garrigue, undergrowth, and dry leaves.

Palate

On the palate, the Grenache’s fruit is as dark as the nose. It does have a sweet core, but it’s no bigger than a pea. Otherwise, the wine is quite dry, the tannins powdery, the acidity brilliant, and the wine juicy and tart. A Grenache full of power and grace, with a cool, tart presence and clarity.
