Product description for Fritsch Grüner Veltliner Ried Steinberg 2023 (bio)Weinberghof Fritsch is one of the flagship wineries of the Wagram region. The approximately 25 hectares of vines are cultivated exclusively according to biodynamic guidelines to ensure the greatest possible expression of terroir and origin. The Wagram region is the highest elevation in Austria and is heavily influenced by loess, making it the ideal origin for first-class Grüner Veltliner. Karl Fritsch is a member of the Respekt Biodyn winegrowers’ association. The Grüner Veltliner Ried Steinberg comes from the steep slope of the same name with slate and granite soils. The vines, which are between 15 and 65 years old, grow in a southeasterly orientation at an altitude of 240 meters. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and then spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks for four to eight months.

Colour

Light yellow with green reflections.

Nose

Joyful and jovial, it gathers pome and stone fruits such as yellow apricots, plump pears, and waxy apples in its fruit basket. A bouquet of fresh herbs such as ground elder, cress, and chervil garnishes the still life, while mild spices and delicate citrus notes complete the stylish impression. Unfussy and straightforward with a distinctive backbone, it makes the lips purse towards the glass.

Palate

The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Steinberg from Weingut Fritsch is also straightforward and crystal-clear on the first sip: The ripe yellow fruit on the opening is framed by powdery tannins on the tip of the tongue and on the rim, buoyed by ripe acidity and juicy fruit in the extract. Bitter and tart with a creamy texture and precise contours, it suits every possible situation—whether at the table or in convivial company.
