Site Information

The vineyards surrounding the former Winkelberg Castle slope southward and are located on a plateau behind the Wagram River. Underneath the thick, fertile loess cover lie cold-period terrace gravel from the Danube, and beneath this lie clayey-silty, Miocene marine sediments with sand deposits, indicating periodic storm events.

Vine Information

The grapes were harvested by hand and fermented spontaneously for two months in used 2000-liter wooden barrels.

Sparkling, intense golden yellow.

Nose

The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Ried Schlossberg 1.ÖTW is expressive on the nose, with plenty of minerality and earthy notes. After pouring into the carafe, it reveals fruity aromas of apricot, orange, and mango. Ethereal notes of eucalyptus, mint, and nettle lend it a refreshing, cool, and complex character.

Palate

On the palate, it is taut, lean, and captivating, with an invigorating acidity beautifully embedded in the fruity texture. The juicy density, with plenty of playfulness and a highly stimulating tannin note, ensures an impressive flow and makes it a congenial food accompaniment. Excellent aging potential!
