The Campo Rotaliano is a distinct geographical area nestled between the mountains, like an indentation of the Adige Valley. Its origins are inextricably linked to the Noce River, which has carried limestone, granite, and porphyry debris for centuries. Within the Campo Rotaliano, various microzones can be distinguished by their soil composition, each given a different name by the winemakers. The Vigneto Morei covers 2.5 hectares, is planted 100% with Teroldego Rotaliano, and lies on the gravelly and sandy alluvial soils of the Noce River. The name Morei comes from the Trentino dialect and means “moro” or “dark,” which refers to the wine’s deep colour. The grapes are fermented in amphorae (tinajas from Villarrobledo, Spain) and clarified during eight months of aging on the skins. Production averages 12,000 bottles.

Nose

The nose of Elisabetta Foradori’s 2022 Morei is characterized by its dark fruit and powerful character. The more powerful of the two single-vineyard Teroldegos is generous and open-hearted even in its youth, with the obligatory floral top note. Mallow, violet, blueberries, and cherries outline the fruit, while a hint of chocolate adds the finishing touch.

Palate

Generous on the palate with expansive fruit and a friendly nature. The dark, sparkling fruit is framed by a grippy tannin corset that is tightly laced to the waist and gives the wine its lascivious shape. Tightly and densely woven, it frames the profound fruit, while the taut acidity leads into the cool, fruity finish.

Tactile mineral tones add a pleasant crunch as hints of white pepper and pomegranate linger over a bed of gently grippy tannins. The 2022 Morei has a more immediate feel than past vintages, yet its balance can not be denied. The purity alone is spellbinding.
