Product description for Foradori Granato Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2017 (bio)
Marian Henß:And then it finally reveals its full potential. Powerful and with fine-grained tannins, it knows how to present itself as a Foradori and thrives above all on a cool elegance. The Teroldego is racy and characterized by spicy notes. The dark fruits are now noticeably brighter and not at all concentrated. The acidity gives the wine a decent punch and plenty of finesse. The floral, violet notes linger wonderfully in the finish. The foothills of the Alps leave behind a cool-looking wine that scores not for its concentration or power, but for its endurance.
Colour
Dark purple with violet reflections and a black core.
Nose
The 2017 Teroldego from Vigneti delle Dolomiti by Foradori presents itself on the nose with the stature of John Wayne. Dark fruits such as blackberries, elderberries, and black cherries are complemented by dried plums, cloves, black pepper, and a touch of crushed juniper. The aromas float in balance, revealing their complex conglomerate of flavours. The typical floral notes tentatively emerge after some aeration, which the Granato so desperately needs in its youthful state. Large, expensive glasses are also welcome.
Palate
On the palate, the Granato proves its status as the undisputed king of Teroldego. In velvety regalia, it masterfully masters the art of gracefully walking the fine line between full-fruited opulence and elegant finesse. With subtle nobility, it combines the extract-rich fruit with its aristocratic tannins and is carried almost dreamily by the majestically integrated acidity. Even if you’d enjoy drinking it now with great pleasure, a few years of bottle aging is recommended for optimal enjoyment.

The 2017 Granato is a dark, rich and powerful wine; but that’s not to say it’s international in style, which is a common misconception regarding this flagship wine from Foradori. Masses of crushed cherry, currant, blueberry, tobacco, exotic spice and black, ashen earth form its captivating bouquet. The density of its textures nearly hides the bristling acidity and mounting tannins beneath, as notes of wild berry, savory herbs and saline-minerality saturate all that they touch. This mixture seems to slowly melt away, leaving hints of violet florals and a tug of tart fruits. The Granato is sourced from the estate’s oldest parcels in Campo Rotaliano, some planted as far back as 1938 as pergola-trained vines. The wine is fermented with up to 40% of its clusters intact, and it ages only in large, neutral oak.
