Wine Information

Lou Bragalou is the Occitan name for L’Aphyllanthe de Montpellier, a garrigue plant typical of the Languedoc. This white wine is a 100% Grenache Blanc from a vineyard with approximately 30-year-old vines. The vineyard is characterized by limestone gravel and large river pebbles with a high quartz content. After hand-picking, 80% of the grapes were directly pressed and 20% were spontaneously fermented as whole bunches. Aging took place largely in tanks, and the wine was bottled unfined.

Nose

The 2022 Lou Bragalou needs a little time to find its feet and open up in the glass – quite typical for the grape variety. A decanter certainly helps. Then, one finds notes of wax, broom, a hint of smoke, lemon and grapefruit peel, some fennel seed, and a firm pear.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is elegant and silky, yet southern in its aromas of crisp white and yellow-fleshed fruit, spices and herbs, stone, and citrus notes. The delicate garrigue, anise, licorice, and fennel notes, in particular, evoke Mediterranean cuisine. The ripe, yet present acidity and the pleasantly subtle alcohol content for the grape variety round out the successful overall picture.
