El Lebrero is based on the native Albillo Mayor variety. In 2012, the Wienberg in Sotillo de la Ribera was recultivated on a small three-hectare site. In the region near Burgos, the vineyards are located high on the plateau at an altitude of approximately 830-930 meters. In the cool, windy heights, the vines grow on loamy clay and sandy limestone. After manual harvesting and processing by gravity in the winery, the wine is vinified in smaller batches. One-third is subjected to maceration and fermented with the skins in steel tanks. Two-thirds is fermented in 500-liter barrels and concrete eggs. The larger portion experiences eight months of contact with the yeasts to develop structure and complexity. The 2021 vintage was quite typical for the region: moderate temperatures and well-distributed rainfall. There is almost no rain in the summer, so the vines have to feed on the resources of winter and spring. The harvest for the Albillo began on September 23rd in this very location.

Colour

Rich lemon yellow

Nose

It starts off quite reductive and closed. Then the fruit slowly piles up. Passion fruit and pineapple add exotic flavours. Grapefruit and pear add lighter accents. Lemon zest adds tart, refreshing elements. The pineapple appears both candied and grilled. Its chalky homeland is well presented. A hint of cold smoke and delicate nuances of hazelnut complement it very well.

Palate

It flows linearly and minerally across the palate. With slight bitterness, the tannin works very well with the fruit. It builds its substance and nestles harmoniously. The nutty and spicy aromas then take over. With air and the appropriate glasswork, it can fully develop. Along with the exotic fruit and its chalky character, the melting texture and delicate creaminess delight the palate. The mouthfeel is very persistent and long-lasting.
