Product description for Familia Nin Ortiz Planetes Blanc 2023
Info
The slate slopes of Porrera also boast a few white grape varieties, and the number is increasing. 26-year-old vines are cultivated on 0.9 hectares, along with 4-year-old vines on 0.73 hectares. The vines are exposed to the southeast to southwest. 70% of the wine is matured and aged in used barrels and 30% in concrete eggs. The temperature is regulated.
Color
Sparkling straw yellow with green elements.
Nose
An exciting and characterful wine stands before us in the glass. It shows its Mediterranean origins and yet is completely at peace with itself. A true haven of peace. A wine that seems to exist entirely without fruit. The garrigue, the aromas of pine groves, as well as thyme, sage, and rosemary are defining features. However, its ethereal side is more noticeable in its dried form. The aroma is somewhat reminiscent of dry gravel roads in chalky or chalky regions. It reveals pure notes of almond blossom and freshly chopped almonds. Mirabelle plums, pears, and quinces open brightly and tentatively at first. Over time, the fruit turns a more yellowish color, making room for persimmons. Turmeric and cubeb pepper provide a pleasant spice. Freshly grated fennel and fennel stalks, along with artichokes, lend it a vegetal character.
Palate
On the palate, it faithfully reproduces the impressions from the nose. Puristic, linear, and chalky at the same time. This describes the mouthfeel very aptly for me. Moderate, well-balanced acidity leaves room for its clear, mineral side. In this context, the acidity, in conjunction with the local climatic conditions, is considered outstanding. I have rarely had such an exciting white wine from Priorat in my glass that can skillfully showcase this. The fruit remains moderate on the palate, building only slowly. The whole is based on a broad, dense, and warming structure that manages to exude elegance and generosity in equal measure. The finish also remains true to its purist, Mediterranean character.

Score: 94
The 2023 Planetes de Nin Carinyena Blanca saw a big change. They stopped the skin contact, and the profile of the wine has changed; it’s a lot more expressive, open and floral, more serious too, more mineral and finer-boned. It matured 70% in barrels and 30% in concrete egg. It has a pungent palate with deep flavors and a chalky texture. And it has more ripeness, with 13.2% alcohol, which means more development of aromas and flavors in the wine, which they think is because it comes partly from a slope and before it was from flat vineyards. 6,350 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2024.
