Product description for Familia Nin Ortiz Nit de Nin “Mas d’en Caçador” 2021
Star oenologist Ester Nin launched this project in 2003 and immediately received top marks from international wine critics. Through her work as a bodega manager and oenologist at the Clos i Terasses (Clos Erasmus) winery, she has gained extensive experience in producing world-class wines. The Mas den Caçador plot, which forms the basis for Nit de Nin, is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular and best sites in the Priorat region. But this special location also takes its toll. Working in the vineyard is only possible with mules, which is no easy task given the extremely steep slope. The location of Finca Planetes is hardly inferior. Together with her husband, Carles Ortiz, she cultivates both plots entirely biodynamically.

The nose of the 2021 Nit de Nin Mas d’en Caçador is really different, with a savory condition, reminiscent of cured sausage (Catalan “fuet” dry sausage), herbal, fresh and floral, with some notes of meat and blood. It was produced with the grapes from the ancient vineyard and is a blend of 75% Garnacha (Red and Peluda) and 28% Cariñena. It fermented in 3,200-liter oak foudres with full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in 225- and 300-liter barrels for 18 months. It has moderate ripeness, a medium-bodied palate with 13.5% alcohol, purity of flavors and fine tannins, a soft mouthfeel and mellow acidity. 2,401 bottles were filled in April 2023.

The 2021 Nit De Nin Mas d’En Caçador is a blend of 72% Garnatxa and Garnatxa Peluda with 28% Carignan, sourced from Porrera in Priorat. Fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged for 18 months in barrel, this wine is highly expressive, revealing aromas of violets, roses, grapefruit, blood and undergrowth. Dry, lean and juicy, it offers a talc-like texture on the palate, contributing to a long-lasting mouthfeel. This is a modern interpretation of Priorat, showcasing a light, ethereal expression contrasted by deep, enduring flavors—a beautiful wine.
