Product description for Familia Nin Ortiz Selma 2019
Information about the wine
It comes from a vineyard called El Plà de Manlleu in Ester Nin’s hometown in Alt Penedès. She and Carles Ortiz planted a blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, Chenin Blanc, and Parellada Montonega on one hectare there. The vines are planted on clay and limestone at an altitude of 750 meters. After harvest, the grapes are slowly pressed and macerated with the skins and stems for two days. Fermentation then takes place in barriques. It then aged for eight months in nine barriques (300 l), one barrique (225 l), and three years in the bottle.
Colour
Sparkling, intense golden yellow.
Nose
The 2019 Selma de Nin is a radiant wine. Aromas of lime, grapefruit, orange, apricot, and young mango are omnipresent immediately after pouring, blended with floral fragrances and delicate roasted notes of vanilla, café au lait, and brittle, which point to the skillful and subtle influence of the previous aging in small wooden barrels. An immense cool freshness characterizes the opening and awakens the longing for the first sip.
Palate
On the palate, this top white wine is at its best, with juicy, bright fruit that reveals pear and quince on the tongue, and at the same time, an invigorating acidity reminiscent of the citrus fruits on the nose. The moderate alcohol content of 12.5% vol underscores its pure elegance and makes it the perfect accompaniment to fine and elegant cuisine, and it can also be safely aged for a few more years. If you want to enjoy it now, it is advisable to decant it and serve it in large glasses. Even a day of opening it in the fridge will let it win.

I loved the beautiful and complex nose of the 2019 Selma, which was more austere and undeveloped than the 2018 I tasted next to it. It has moderate alcohol, 12.5%, and very good freshness and acidity. These are complex wines with a round palate, reminiscent of some Rhône whites. It’s subtle, elegant and powerful at the same time, very tasty, long and with a dry, salty finish. 3,870 bottles produced.
