Product description for Duemani Suisassi Toscana IGT 2012 (bio)
Christina Hilker: The 2015 Suisassi impresses on the palate with its fruit and density; Luca d’Attoma is increasingly perfecting his wine style. We encounter a silky elegance and unparalleled playfulness, integrated into the juicy fruitiness. Every sip entices us to take another, and the accompanying cuisine can be intense and earthy.
Colour
Dark purple with violet reflections and a black core.
Nose
The 2012 Suisassi from Duemani is a perfectly adapted, Tuscanized Syrah: Both the variety and the typical aroma of Tuscany are evident in the glass. Black cherries and red Kampot pepper mingle with balsamic notes, subtle herbal spice, bay leaves, and cherry confit complete the experience. Be sure to decant and drink from large Burgundy glasses.
Palate
The densest calibration for velvet would be an apt comparison for the tight and dense texture of this wine. It lies deep and compact on the drinker’s tongue and down the throat. Rich fruit, opulent tannins, and a long, sweeping acidity give this wine the tools for many years of bottle aging. Thanks to its richness, however, it is also enjoyable to drink in its youth. Minerality, extract, and freshness are the cornerstones of what is perhaps the finest Syrah from Tuscany.

Score: 93
A pure expression of Syrah, the 2012 Suisassi is an outstanding interpretation of one of wine’s noble grape varieties. The nose is immensely full and generous and there is a clear presence of something exotic on the bouquet that resembles cardamom, clove or cinnamon stick. The fruit is dark and loaded tight with extraction and richness. As I found in most of Duemani’s new releases the oak element is still not fully integrated. I would give it a year or two before serving this wine.

The 2012 Syrah Suisassi brings together the density and richness of the Tuscan coast, but the inclusion of whole clusters adds freshness and also seems to bring forward considerable varietal character. Sweet dark cherries, violets, lavender, quinine and spices are some of the many notes that grace the open-knit finish. The Syrah is fermented and aged in cask, a technique Luca D’Attoma first used at Le Macchiole.
