Product description for Duemani Suisassi Costa Toscana IGP 2019 (bio)
Info
The Syrah comes from the clay-rich and stony vineyard with limestone in the subsoil in Riparbella. Elena Celli and Luca d’Attoma describe the vineyard as extreme. It faces the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vines were planted 17 years ago. Manual harvest and first selection in the vineyard. Gentle destemming and a second selection on the sorting table follow in the winery. The grapes should reach fermentation in barrels with as little damage as possible. Fermentation then takes place in 1000-liter conical oak barrels and small French barriques. Around 30% of the harvest is fermented with whole bunches. Manual pigeage takes place in the barriques during fermentation. In the conical barrels, the must is pumped over the rising pomace cake. After fermentation, the skins are left on the skins for 30 days. After racking, the wines are blended and then returned to the same barrels for maturation. 80% first-time and 20% second-time use of the barrels. Maturation in the barrel lasts 22 months. No further racking or filtration takes place until bottling.

Nose
The 2019 Suisassi Syrah from Duemani never fails to delight. With the high expectations of the elegance created by Luca d’Attoma in the wines, even connoisseurs of leaner wine types are won over. The Syrah is dominated by dark fruit. Blackberry, sweet cherry, mulberry, fig, and cassis are loudly represented in the glass. Plums and pickled morello cherries also join this array of aromas. The fruit is rounded off with a touch of cinnamon, black pepper, and hints of juniper. Rosemary, oregano, and licorice are added from the spice cabinet. Delicate notes of coconut lend it a varied spiciness. Licorice and melted dark chocolate come in just as deservedly. After a few minutes, ethereal components reminiscent of mint and eucalyptus unfold in the glass.
Palate
Even on the first sip, Luca d’Attomo’s world opens up. Despite all the density and concentration, he succeeds time and again in taming these powerhouses in wine form. The intense fruit is wrapped in an elegant, silky coat that also brings cooling attributes. The tannin is wonderfully melting and buttery soft. The onset of acidity on the palate is gripping, ensuring good freshness and plenty of life on the palate. The fruit appears serious, expansive, and generous in the finish. The ethereal aromas are also present. Eucalyptus and licorice dominate the finish for minutes. A subtle spiciness emerges at this early stage, but it is very well buffered.
