Peter Müller: The first sip of the 2015 Duemani Cabernet Franc is downright harsh. I would be too, however, with disapproval, if someone thought they were out to get me after only two and a half years… After a while, however, these two hands open. Highly concentrated, yet far from overly sweet or overloaded, the wine reveals itself with rich density and fleshy tannins. Its tightly woven tannins certainly require a little patience to take their rightful place in the overall picture of this purist powerhouse. Definitely a long-distance runner. True to the motto “The unexpected (doesn’t come so often),” something rare is achieved here: Cabernet Franc through and through. Tuscany through and through. Without a conflict of interest.

Colour

A deep, dark ruby red with a black core, the wine appears clear and brilliant in the glass.

Nose

With the tanned, leathery, and powerful paw of a Tuscan winemaker, this Cabernet Franc pats you boldly on the shoulder and inevitably makes no secret of its character. It can’t be pigeonholed with the rather cool, herbal Cabernet Francs from the Loire Valley, nor with the high nobility from Bordeaux. Although the latter conjures up a little more delight on its rosy cheeks. This one is hot-blooded. The smokiness of tobacco leaf, charcoal-roasted chestnuts, and leek ash leaves room for cassis, cranberry, and cherry compote with cinnamon bark. Nevertheless, it takes center stage.

The beautiful 2015 Cabernet Franc Duemani shows the heat of the summer growing season in a bold and upfront manner. The wine is impenetrable and inky dark in appearance. It is not jammy per se, but that brilliant Tuscan sunshine seems to bubble up from inside the dark fiber of this thickly extracted expression. The bouquet flows forth with generous blackberry, spice and cured tobacco. Overall the integration is seamless and impressively balanced.
