Wine Information

Merlot and Cabernet Franc are planted according to biodynamic principles in Riparbella, a few kilometers from the sea.

Production Information

The cuvée, made from equal parts of 50 percent, is fermented in cement tanks, followed by eight to ten months of aging in French oak. The Altrovino was neither fined nor filtered.

Colour

Deep, dark cherry red, black at the core with minimal lightening towards the rim.

Nose

The 2020 Altrovino is an extremely compact wine that still presents itself somewhat closed when freshly opened. With sufficient oxygen exposure, dark blackberries, wild raspberries, and blueberries emerge. A wealth of vegetal notes such as green bell pepper, rosemary, thyme, and juniper give this monumental wine a wonderful freshness. Delicate notes of peat, tobacco, and graphite are hinted at and will become even more pronounced with further maturation. A wine characterized by power, finesse, and freshness all at once.

Palate

On the palate, it impresses with an exciting interplay of coolness and finesse, as well as dense, sweetly fruity notes. The use of wood is extremely skillful, its tannins complex, and its acidity extremely invigorating. Anyone who wants to taste it now would do well to decant it. Even one or two days in the refrigerator will enhance its qualities. Intense dishes with concentrated sauces appreciate the accompaniment of this monumental wine.
