Product description for du Bouchot Pouilly-Fumé MCMLV AOC 2020 (bio)
Wine Information
Like the Du Bouchot Terres Blanches, the MCMLV vines are planted on “Terres Blanches,” meaning white clay, marl, and Kimmeridge limestone with high levels of oyster fossils. Certified organic since 2009 and biodynamically cultivated since 2015, the Sauvignon Blanc is planted in the Les Coûtes and Les Sapins plots, covering a total of 0.46 hectares. The vines are over 60 years old. This is the oldest vineyard in the domaine.
Colour
Bright golden yellow.
Nose
The 2020 Pouilly Fumé MCMLV offers a beautiful abundance of fruit on the nose: gooseberries, figs, lemon, lemon peel, and grapefruit mingle with flint and a cool sea breeze. Hints of iodine and soy sauce underscore the umami character of this wine, which awakens a desire for intensive cuisine even on the nose.
Palate
A wine that glides smoothly over the tongue with plenty of juiciness, smoothness, and density, while also possessing a stimulating, meaty spiciness and invigorating acidity. An extremely full-bodied white wine that captivates with its coolness and finesse. It practically calls for the accompaniment of culinary delights. Wonderful depth and intensity, a truly special wine!

The 2020 Pouilly Fumé MCMLV hails from Domaine du Bouchot’s oldest plot of vines dating back to 1955 hence the name MCMLV. Bottled just four weeks before I tasted it in June 2022, it had undergone an unusual winemaking process: half of the wine underwent skin contact for several days while the rest was pressed directly into old (8 to 10-year-old) 500-liter barrels. This wine shows lots of thiol-related flavors: tropical fruit, gooseberry as well as a hint of green. It is wine with lots of texture, a sense of roundness and completeness with a sense of satisfying grip that clasps the palate on the finish. There’s lovely acidity, but it’s nicely balanced.
