Description
The family’s vineyard dates back to François Drappier, who planted the first vineyard in Urville on the Côte des Bar in 1808. Urville itself was founded by Romans, whose vineyards were later also cultivated by the Cîteaux Abbey. Drappier has probably been the best-known house in the south of Champagne for decades. Today, it cultivates 62 hectares of its own vineyards and 50 in contract partnerships. Two thirds of the vineyards in Bar-sur-Aube are planted with Pinot Noir. There are also Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and old grape varieties. 17 hectares of vineyards are now certified organic, with a further ten in conversion. The winery is also certified CO2-neutral. Very little or no sulphur is used in the cellar. The vintage wines are stored in barriques. In addition, the Drappiers use liqueurs for their dosage that are matured for at least 15 years.
