Product description for d’Ouréa Vacqueyras blanc AOC 2021 (bio)Domaine D’Ouréa is located in Vacqueyras, in the heart of the Vaucluse department in the southern Rhône Valley. The name of the 520-meter-high domaine is rooted in Greek mythology and refers to the god of the mountains. With direct views of Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail opposite, Adrien Roustan’s 20-hectare vineyard is spread across Vacqueyras and Gigondas. The estate has been certified organic since 2012, and in 2020, it converted to biodynamic farming, which will be completed with the 2023 vintage. The Vacqueyras Blanc comes from a small 0.30-hectare plot planted by Adrien in 2011. The small, east-facing slope consists of blue and yellow clay and is planted 80% with Clairette and 20% with Bourboulenc. The grapes are hand-picked and then pressed with the stems. Alcoholic fermentation with the grapes’ own yeasts takes place, as does the subsequent six-month aging in concrete tanks. A great white Rhône wine!

Colour

Light straw yellow with strong reflections.

Nose

The nose resembles the display at a Provençal weekly market and combines all the fully ripe and yellow aromas of plump pears, quinces, and Charentais melons, complemented by citrus notes of green mandarin and orange blossom. Spicy accents of fennel, anise, and chervil, as well as floral top notes of jasmine and boxwood, complete the joyful array and herald a fruity, juicy Rhône delight.

Palate

On the palate, the 2021 Vacqueyras blanc from Domaine D’Ourea is extremely disciplined and presents itself as a structural experience. Contrary to its fruity promise, it shines aromatically with Mediterranean spices of bay leaves, wild thyme, and olive leaves, as if one were standing in the middle of the southern French garrigue. With cool minerality and a saline finish, it flows tautly across the palate and harks back to the history of great white Rhône wines. A real treat!
