Product description for Diel Burg Layer Riesling Schlossberg 1G 2023
Wine Information
The 1.3-hectare VDP Erste Lage Burg Layer Schlossberg vineyard is characterized by heavily weathered red slate soils. Gentle pressing of the grapes. Fermentation and aging with natural yeasts in multi-year-old barrels from local oak forests.
Color/Appearance
Light golden yellow with distinct green reflections.
Nose
The 2023 Riesling Burg Layer Schlossberg Erstes Gewächs presents itself with a delicate and elegant nose. Cool slate notes, smoky hints, as well as lime and green apple, emerge clearly from the glass. With the necessary oxygen, fragrant floral notes and herbal nuances emerge.
Palate
In its youthful stage, it is pleasantly provoking on the palate with its acidity and fresh citrus and apple fruit. This Riesling, pure and a true long-distance runner, is in the glass, and will benefit from further bottle aging, which will then unfold wonderfully. Rich, classic dishes from the kitchen are the trump card here!

Score: 94
From weathered red slate soils, the 2023 Riesling Burg Layer Schlossberg 1G opens with an intense and yeasty bouquet of ripe Riesling berries, rum raisins and savory slate aromas. On the palate, this is a generous but savory and elegant, saline and vivacious dry Riesling with crystalline acidity and a savory, crunchy and finely grippy finish dominated by the terroir’s decomposed slate soils and the perfectly ripe fruit. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Burg Layen in February 2025.

The 2023 Riesling Burg Layer Schlossberg shines with dried yarrow and chamomile blossom on the nose, accompanied by citrus and a flinty edge. This herbal and stony lift carries right through to the palate, where an exquisite, taut, zesty intensity makes for slender yet punchy allure. A gorgeous Riesling.
