Product description for De Sousa et Fils Coteaux Champenois, Blanc AOC 2020 (bio)
Colour
Straw yellow with a slightly satin-matte shimmer.
Nose
The nose of the 2020 Coteaux Champenoise Blanc from Champagne de Sousa is currently still crowned by a delicate reduction note reminiscent of rubber abrasion and matches. With increasing aeration, this impression changes towards linseed oil, which creates an earthy bass. The melody is repetitive in a New Wave style, somewhat cool and reserved, yet catchy and engaging. Citrus and wet river pebbles pave the way directly to the bridge, green hazelnuts rattle like maracas until the chorus blows into full blast. A chalky, chalky hook with a cool attitude.
Palate
Grippy with decent grip and plenty of understatement, y’know what I’m saying? From the lemon, only the oil, a powdery, fine tannin, and a dusty minerality. Each component is extracted, but only as much as necessary to keep the conversation flowing. The antipode to the rich New World style with its rich wood—one could hardly formulate more stark contrasts. But no less precise. Hand-forged blade, folded a thousand times or something.
